All Purpose Quarter Horse Farm was established in 1974 by Willis and Kathleen Ward in Newton, Kansas. There slogan at the time was, A HORSE FOR EVERY PURPOSE, BUT ONLY ONE HORSE, THE AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE. They believed in raising horses with great conformation, speed & brains. So they particularly liked the cross of cow bred horses with race bred horses of the times. For several years they stood a stud by the name of the BOLD OLD MAN x THE OLD MAN, & had several AAA mare's that they bred too, with the bloodlines of GO MAN GO, DEPTH CHARGE, PACIFIC BAILEY, OVERTIME LEO, JOHNNY DIAL, TOP MOON & TOP DECK. Several of these mare's won halter & show classes before & after going on to the track & from the track to the barrels & poles. So they really where horses for every purpose.
By 1991 the farm down sized from 2 studs to none & from 20+ brood mares to just 5. They never stopped raising quality horses, just less of them. An example of some of the stallions we were breeding to in 1993, Bully Bullion, Mr Eye opener & Breeze Tease Bar. So we have never strayed very far from what our goal is today, which is top of the line barrel horses, which still takes a great mind, conformation & of course speed.
Today (2013) the farm has two studs Breeze Tease Kid or as we call him BTK (sorrel) & a 4yr old Dashing Chester son (gray). We just have 3 mares which are strictly brood mares & then several young'ens. Our purpose is more focused on the training & marketing of outside horses then the breeding side or raising them. This is why we have decided to change the name to Ward Performance Horses. We felt like the old name limited us in the direction we wanted to go. One reason is to us a performance horse is any horse with an ounce of athletic ability & that being said could be any breed.
For the last 10 years the farm has been solely ran by Jed Ward the son of Willis & Kathleen & his wife Amy & the main purpose has been the training aspect of the horse industry. Jed has a unique way with his equine partners, they seem to trust him & that is such a plus when staring a young horse or fixing problemed horse. Jed has taken on 7 mustangs in the last few years to compete in the Extreme Mustang Makeover. In doing these competitions he has learned how athletic any horse can be with enough time & patience no matter the breed. He has a passion for horses of all kinds, his mother instilled that into him before he was born probably, since she was riding up to the day she delivered Jed & had his 1st pony before he was one (that was pretty much his baby sitter) lol. He was told once by a Saddle Bred trainer, that he was the least bias horseman she had ever seen, it didnt matter if it was a Arabian, Saddle Bred, Draft horse or any other breed you seem to treat them all the same.
Well thats a short background on the name & where All Purpose Quarter Horse Farm came from & why we hopefully  will build a reputable Name in the horse world as Ward Performance Horses where one day all your training & marketing needs will be met. I say one day because you don't build a palace over night, but we do plan on making some big changes in 2013.

Thanks for stopping by,
from the Ward family & staff.
